3S PHOTONICS Introduces a New Product Family of Ultra-High Power 980nm Terrestrial Pump Laser Modules Jan 17, 2008

Paris, January 15th 2008 - 3S PHOTONICS, a world leading manufacturer of laser chips and modules for telecommunication networks, announces the kick-off of its “1999 CHP” series : a product family of ultra-high power 980nm terrestrial pump laser modules.

3S PHOTONICS, a recognized leader in the submarine pump laser modules market, leverages its technological expertise to build a new generation of powerful pump modules for terrestrial applications that will form the cornerstone for next-generation Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifiers (EDFAs). “This new generation of terrestrial pumps is powered by our in-house chip technology that has been fully qualified for submarine applications, ensuring an unparalleled level of performance and reliability” explains Yannick Bailly, VP Marketing of 3S PHOTONICS.
3S PHOTONICS announces general availability and launches volume production of its 660mW Kink-Free, FBG Stabilized, 1999 CHP 980nm Laser Pump Module.
The 1999 CHP is a new pump product family from 3S PHOTONICS which contains a new Ultra-High Power 980nm laser chip internally developed and fully qualified, exceeding Telcordia recommendations.

• The new pump modules incorporate the latest generation 3S PHOTONICS 1999 LCv2 980nm laser chip, Telcordia qualified, delivering more than 900mW at 1100mA
• Low profile 14-pin Butterfly package with Polarization Maintaining Fiber (PMF) pigtail
• Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) stabilization
• Multiple wavelength availability
• Integrated Thermo-Electric Cooler (TEC), precision NTC thermistor, and back-facet monitor photodiode
• Up to 660mW kink-free output power from –5°C to +75°C
• Excellent stability performance with high dynamic range
• Fully qualified in accordance with Telcordia GR-468 CORE specifications
• Field proven high reliability
• Applications : Low Noise Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifiers (EDFAs), Next-generation Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) EDFAs, CATV, and industrial markets
