Chromatic dispersion (CD) has been a known issue for almost a decade now; however, testing for it on STM-64 is not always done systematically. Nowadays, more than ever, CD should be tested for since the risk of experiencing CD has increased due to the optical distances on the core network that have reached unprecedented lengths, in addition to the advent of the mesh network topology in metro environments and, moreover, with the newer challenges being faced: 40 Gbit/s or STM-256.
