Innovation must go on
If you think that 2008 has been a difficult year, then you won't be pleased to hear that the agony will be prolonged. As clocks all over the world tick over to 2009, a "leap second" will be added, to bring the ultra-precise atomic measurement of time back in line with the Earth's orbit. In Europe, a long-wave transmitter near Frankfurt, Germany, will transmit the new time to every radio-controlled clock within a 2000 mile radius. If only there was such a ready fix when borrowing and income are out of kilter.
